Jack O’ Lantern says adieu

Lack O’ Lantern  is a spirit. It came to protect peace and wellbeing from destructive thoughts, emotions and dark parts of human beings. He  works only a short period of time every year, living in pumpkin and other vegetables traditionally prepared for Halloween celebrations.
His job is well done. And it is time for a new era of gratitude with Thanksgivings and  meeting Christmas.
Enjoy the movie and thank Jack o ’Lantern for stopping by.Smile

What ever match you project. Here are some pictures of Halloween designs I made with my garden resources! Nothing special, but nice. I like my jack O’ Lantern.
Tip:  Carve your pumpkin with woodworking carving tools. Don’t make an open cuts. It is you flower container, but some face expression would look fine with  a top carving! Rub some vegetable oil onto the fresh cuts if your carved pumpkin. It will prevent it from molding for a while. But be prepared you beautiful arrangement will mold in a few days.

Halloween Flowers Arrangement

Halloween – the festive children's holiday when witches, goblins and ghosts are about provides an ideal occasion for a fall party. To set the theme, here is a fresh pumpkin made into a Jack O’ Lantern flower container.
Accessories: gourds, candy corn, cider, pumpkin seeds if you like
The simple steps to follow :
1. Insert floral foam in the carved pumpkin and set the three cat-tails in place. If you had a pumpkin carving contest, use the pumpkins body and leave the seeds inside to create one-day vases for sunflowers, marigolds and daisies. Keeping the seeds inside the pumpkin will hold the flower stems in place. Or you can bake   and use the floral foam to hold the flowers.
Tip:  Use a chicken wire, that will help hold your stems in place in your  container. It can be purchased from large hardware or farm supply stores and will be galvanized. If you have the opportunity to buy it from a florist wholesaler, you'll be able to get green plastic-coated wire. This is more expensive but is easier on your hands. Chicken wire can be used either around a container, inside a container, or around floral foam.
2. Fill in with five more sunflowers. Work these flowers into the center and bottom of the arrangement keeping the design in proper balance and perspective.
3. Add five more sunflowers or other fall flowers. Also place green leaves in amongst the flowers to fill in empty spaces in the arrangement. Remember about balance and keep the harmony of your creation.
4. Finally add three more teasels and one last sunflower. Around the pumpkin top, place oak leaves to cover stems, floral foam and the arrangement base. I use green peony leaves for green impression on bottom spot.

How to amplify the life of cut organic flowers

Cut flowers always play an important part in any celebration. There are some ways and tricks to amplify the life of cut organic flowers and extend their life for a longer time. The biocides from florist shop work well with prolonging beauty of fresh flowers, they kill yeast, bacteria and fungi, which feed on the floral sap, but also contain some chemicals what organic grown flowers are not used for. Once flowers are removed from the plant they continue to grow slowly, but have a diminished capability of receiving the nutrients that are vital for their survival.
There are 3 major categories of cut flowers' needs: water, food, environment. As the delicate organic bouquet requires much attention, make sure you are ready for arrangements.
  • Sterilize the vase and change the water every day to keep it fresh. Filtrate the water before use. A peace of charcoal on the bottom of the vase will eliminate chlorine as well. Squeeze a fresh lemon, or add 2 tbsp of white vinegar , or 1 tbsp of salt to every quart of water. Washed copper pennies, silver coin or peace of silver jewelry in water will do the same job of killing harmful bacteria and microbes, and keeping the water fresh.
  • In order to prolong the life of cut organic flowers in a vase it is important to provide nutrients for them. Plants thrive in an environment where there are few bacteria, plenty of food for energy and water uptake is encouraged. In addition to acidic water, cane sugar can substitute glucose source, which had been lost when the flower was cut away from its root. Carnations, tulips, lilac and roses are well known sugar lovers. Chrysanthemums and dahlias rather would prefer acidic water, and asters would enjoy several drops of 2% glycerin. As a general rule, with a lower pH level of water and plenty of glucose as an energy source the food conducting system within the flower can work at maximum efficiency.
  • To provide friendly environment for your organic flowers, cut them in early morning when the glucose level in a plant is still high. Avoid cutting flowers during a rain. Remove all leaves below the water line. Flowers will last longer if you cut the stems at an angle under the water with a sharp scissors and hold the cut area with your finger while move the flowers into the vase. Woody plants will thrive indoors if you crush or split the ends to allow them to absorb the moisture better. Cut the stems every day and remove all wilted flowers from the bouquet regularly. Spray them with a fresh water also. For some flowers, such as tulips and lilies, it is recommended to remove their anthers. Use the natural compatibility to amplify the life of cut organic flowers in bouquet. Some flowers don't like each other company; lily of the valley, sweet pea, daffodil will force all other flowers to wilt, rose and carnation will lose their fragrances if they stay together in the same vase. Of the opposite, twig of geranium, thuya, or woodruff will prolong the life of bouquet. To refresh cut flowers from the florist shop, wrap them in a wet cotton towel and keep in refrigerator for at least 2 hours before the arrangement.
Cut organic flowers are very sensitive to the environment. The simple events like light draft, bright sun, intense heat or cold, the change of temperature, smoke-filled accommodations, even pushes can affect their short life. Experts assert that the in the house sensitively react to the psychological climate in the family. They live longer in the where they reign in peace. And they droop rapidly in the atmosphere of confrontation and hostility.
